Swiss Chard curry

Ingredients:
swiss chard - 1/2 bunch
moong dal(pesara pappu) / red gram(kandhi pappu) - 1 cup
onion - 1/2 cup
tomato - 1/2 cup
green chillies - 8 to 10 no.
turmeric - 1/2 tsp
tamarind paste - 1 tsp
mustard seeds(avaalu) - 1tsp
jeera - 1 tsp
methi seeds - 1/2 tsp
curry leaves - 1 strand
oil - 4 tbsp
salt to taste

*Swiss chard is great substitute for thotakura, for the people who are missing it. I live in canada, i miss thotakura so much.

Preparation:
1. Take a pan and add green gram. Roast it for 2 mins.(if you are using red gram, no need to roast )
2. Now add roasted green gram or red gram, chopped swiss chard, onion, tomato, green chillies, turmeric and water till all ingredients cover with water into a vessel.
3. Keep the vessel on stove on medium heat and keep lid on vessel. Check 2 to 3 times until green gram
to cook.

(if you want to cook it in pressure cooker, keep the vessel in pressure cooker and close the lid. wait until pressure comes out and then keep the weight valve and wait for 3 pressures and switch off the stove)

4. Now add tamarind paste and salt. Let it cook for 5 more mins and mash it (not like puree).
5. take a pan, add oil and heat it on medium heat and add mustards seeds, jeera, methi seeds.  Wait until it splutter and add onion, wait until it turns into golden brown and add curry leaves and pour that on curry and mix.

Enjoy this recipe with rice or roti...

stotra :-)
