My mom always liked to cook this pappu pulusu especially when my grandpa came to our house. likes this curry sooooooooo much.
Ingredients:
moong dal(pesara pappu) - 1 cup
chopped onion - 1/2 cup
chopped tomato - 1/2 cup
chopped green chilli - 6 no.
turmeric - 1/4 tsp
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
curry leaves - 5 no.
lemon juice - 2 to 3 tsp
oil - 3 to 4 tsp
salt to taste
asafoetida - a pinch
Preparation:
1. Fry moong dal in a dry pan until you smell nice aroma of dal. Or you can fry until light golden brown if you want to cook in a pressure cooker.
2. Add dal, onions, tomato, chillies into a cooking vessel or pressure cooker. Now add two cups of water and turmeric to it.
3. After dal is cooked mash it and add some water. Don't make it too watery. And add lemon juice and salt. Taste it and don't make it too sour.
You need to balance spice, salt and sour.
4. Take a small pan and put oil in it. Let it heat and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds. Wait until it splutter and add 1 tsp onion, after it turns into golden brown add curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida.
5. Now mix everything into dal mix and let it boil for few minutes.
Now it is time to eat...............
It goes well with rice and along with this you should try on the side vadiyam and salted chillies. Crush the chillies and mix with curry and eat alon with vadiyam, Mmmmmmmmm you feel like you are in heaven.
On the side you can also try egg fry or pepper chicken or chintaku ( dried tamarind leaves powder) chepa (fish).
